Sell Your Port Ellen Whisky

Buying Annual Releases and rare independent Port Ellen bottlings.

Port Ellen is the definitive 'Ghost Distillery' of Islay. Closed in 1983, its finite stock is among the most collected whisky in the world.

  • Box condition
  • Seal condition

Condition Factors

  • -Fill Level: Evaporation is the enemy. Mid-neck is good; top-shoulder is borderline; low-shoulder is problem.
  • -Label Condition: Damp cellars can cause mold/staining on labels.
  • -Box: Annual Releases come in specific boxes. Missing box reduces value.
  • -Seal: Check for parafilm damage or cracks.

Pricing Factors

  • -Release Number: Early Annual Releases (1st, 2nd, 3rd) are significantly more valuable than later ones.
  • -Bottler: Official bottlings usually command a premium over Independents, though rare DL/G&M are high too.
  • -ABV: Cask strength is preferred (~50%+).
  • -Vintage: 1970s distillations are prime.

Common Questions

Do you buy Independent Bottlings?

Yes! Douglas Laing, Signatory, and G&M Port Ellens are highly desirable.

Which Annual Release is worth the most?

Generally the 1st Release (2001) is the most expensive due to rarity.

What if the fill level is low?

We may still buy it, but the price will reflect the 'drinker's risk'. Ideally, it should be in the neck.

Are they reopening?

Diageo is rebuilding Port Ellen, but the 'New' Port Ellen will be distinct from the 'Old' 1983 stock.

Do you buy Brora too?

Yes, we buy Brora, Rosebank, and other silent stills.

How do I ship a $3000 bottle?

Carefully. We recommend double-boxing with plenty of bubble wrap. We provide insurance.
